Job Summary

Providence College of Engineering is seeking a visionary Dean (Research & Development) to lead and elevate the institution's research ecosystem across all disciplines. This is a rare opportunity to shape the research culture of an institution on the rise, fostering innovation from the engineering labs in the Kalam and Raman Centres to the business programs at the Providence School of Business.

The Dean (R&D) will be the architect of Providence's research future—building bridges between academia and industry, mentoring faculty and students, securing impactful grants, and positioning Providence as a hub for meaningful research that addresses real-world challenges.

Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Building a Thriving Research Culture
    1. Cultivate and champion a research-first mindset across all departments—from Civil Engineering to MBA programs
    2. Develop and implement strategic research initiatives that align with global trends and local impact
    3. Create frameworks that encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation
  2. Research Excellence & Output
    1. Drive high-quality research publications in reputed national and international journals
    2. Guide faculty and students through the patent development process
    3. Establish benchmarks and track research metrics to ensure continuous improvement
    4. Promote participation in conferences, seminars, and academic forums
  3. Funding & Resource Development
    1. Identify and secure research grants from government bodies, industry partners, and international organisations
    2. Build sustainable funding pipelines for long-term research projects
    3. Develop proposals that showcase Providence's unique strengths and capabilities
  4. Industry Collaboration & Consultancy
    1. Forge strategic partnerships with industry leaders for collaborative research and consultancy projects
    2. Create opportunities for technology transfer and commercialisation of research outcomes
    3. Position Providence as a go-to partner for industry-driven innovation
  5. Faculty & Student Mentorship
    1. Guide and support faculty in developing their research portfolios and career trajectories
    2. Nurture student research talent through structured mentorship programs
    3. Create pathways for undergraduate and postgraduate students to engage meaningfully in research
  6. Infrastructure & Ecosystem Development
    1. Optimise and expand research facilities, labs, and resources across the Einstein, Raman, and Kalam Centres
    2. Develop research policies, ethics frameworks, and quality standards
    3. Leverage the scenic campus and modern infrastructure to create an environment where research thrives
  7. Leadership & Strategic Planning
    1. Report directly to the Principal and collaborate with the leadership team on institutional research strategy
    2. Represent Providence at academic forums, research councils, and accreditation bodies
    3. Contribute to the college's vision of becoming a premier institution for holistic education
