Job Summary

The Dean (Student Affairs) serves as the primary liaison between the student body and the college administration. The core purpose of this role is to foster a positive, disciplined, and supportive campus environment by managing student conduct, addressing student concerns, and building a culture of mutual trust and transparent communication. This position is responsible for the overall non-academic well-being and development of the student community at Providence College of Engineering.

Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Student Conduct and Discipline:
    1. Administer and enforce the college's code of conduct consistently and fairly.
    2. Serve as the primary investigator and decision-maker for student disciplinary issues.
    3. Develop and implement proactive strategies to promote student discipline, ethical behavior, and a positive campus culture.
    4. Maintain confidential and accurate records of all disciplinary actions.
  2. Student Advocacy and Support:
    1. Act as the primary point of contact for all student-related non-academic matters, including concerns, grievances, and feedback.
    2. Provide a confidential and impartial forum for students to voice their issues.
    3. Proactively identify and assess student needs and trends, and systematically report findings to college leadership.
  3. Mediation and Conflict Resolution:
    1. Function as a neutral mediator in conflicts involving students (student-student, student-faculty, or student-administration).
    2. Facilitate constructive dialogue and guide parties toward amicable and fair resolutions while maintaining decorum.
  4. Inter-Departmental Collaboration:
    1. Liaise effectively with Heads of Academic Departments, the Career Development team, and Admissions to address cross-functional issues affecting students.
    2. Identify student needs that require action from other departments, convey these needs clearly, and collaborate to build consensus on effective solutions.
    3. Ensure a holistic approach to student welfare by integrating efforts across departments.
  5. Initiative Development and Leadership:
    1. Based on student feedback and institutional priorities, propose, develop, and lead initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall student experience.
    2. Champion the long-term institutional goal of creating a campus environment built on trust, transparency, and camaraderie.
    3. Support and collaborate with student clubs and associations to promote engagement in extracurricular activities.
