
Providence College of Engineering hosted a highly impactful awareness programme titled “Empowering Parents: United Against Drug Abuse” on April 22, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the college campus The initiative sought to strengthen the role of parents in guiding their children away from the dangers of substance abuse, highlighting the importance of family as the first line of defence against drugs The event featured Sri Suvrutha Kumar, Retired Sub-Inspector of Police, Anti-Narcotics Squad, as one of the distinguished speakers Drawing from his extensive experience in law enforcement, he provided valuable insights into the current challenges posed by drug trafficking and abuse, while stressing the critical role parents can play in prevention through vigilance and open communication The programme also included an inspiring session by Rev Dr Mothy Varkey, ordained priest, eminent speaker, and author, who addressed the spiritual, emotional, and moral dimensions of drug abuse His talk emphasised the need for nurturing strong values, resilience, and positive family bonds to safeguard young people from harmful influences The event concluded with an interactive session, enabling parents and educators to exchange perspectives and practical strategies Reinforcing the theme “Strong Families, Safe Futures: Say No to Drugs”, the programme left a lasting impression, inspiring collective responsibility in building a drug-free society
