
On 29th July 2025, the BTech 2025–2029 orientation programme featured an enriching session titled “Research Basics for Freshers in Engineering” at the Einstein Centre Seminar Hall The session was conducted by Dr V John Kurian, Dean of Research & Development at Providence College of Engineering, who shared his vast expertise in guiding young researchers Dr Kurian began by explaining the significance of research as the backbone of innovation and engineering progress He emphasised that research is not confined to advanced scholars but is a journey that can begin at the undergraduate level By fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, students can make meaningful contributions to knowledge creation The session introduced students to the fundamentals of research, including identifying research problems, reviewing literature, formulating objectives, and designing methodologies Dr Kurian also emphasised the importance of ethics in research, proper data handling, and the responsible publication of findings Interactive discussions allowed students to reflect on potential research areas in their fields of interest He encouraged them to leverage institutional facilities, collaborate across disciplines, and seek mentorship for their projects The talk concluded with a motivational message that research is not merely about answering questions but about asking the right ones The session inspired the new batch to approach their engineering journey with a spirit of inquiry and innovation
