The BTech 2025–2029 orientation programme featured a refreshing and engaging session titled “The Hidden Fun in Numbers” on 28th July 2025 at the Kalam Centre Seminar Hall Ms Sruthi Vasudevan and Ms Brijit Peter, Assistant Professors in the Department of Science & Humanities at Providence College of Engineering, led the session The session aimed to change students’ perspectives on mathematics by presenting it as a subject full of patterns, creativity, and real-life applications rather than a source of fear Through interactive activities and puzzles, the facilitators showcased how numbers can be enjoyable, logical, and even artistic They highlighted the role of mathematics in everyday problem-solving, engineering design, and technology-driven innovation Students were encouraged to approach numbers not just as abstract entities but as tools for critical thinking and creativity The session also emphasised the interdisciplinary nature of mathematics, linking it with coding, physics, and real-world engineering scenarios By blending fun exercises with thought-provoking concepts, the resource persons successfully broke the stereotype of mathematics as a complex subject The talk inspired the new batch to embrace numbers with curiosity and enthusiasm, helping them see mathematics as both practical and enjoyable The session concluded with a lively interaction, leaving students motivated to explore the “fun side” of numbers in their academic journey
