About the R&D Department

Who We Are

The Research & Development (R&D) Cell of Providence College of Engineering serves as a catalyst for promoting a vibrant culture of research, innovation, and product development among faculty members and students. The Cell facilitates and coordinates research activities, academic projects, innovation initiatives, funded research, intellectual property generation, and technology-driven solutions that contribute to academic excellence and societal development.


The R&D Cell provides strategic direction, policy support, training programmes, and research facilitation mechanisms to strengthen the institution’s research ecosystem. It also encourages faculty members and students to actively engage in quality publications, funded projects, patents, consultancy activities, start-up initiatives, and interdisciplinary research collaborations.

Our Institutional Commitments

Providence College of Engineering is committed to fostering a vibrant research environment guided by clearly defined policies that promote integrity, inclusivity, and impact across all research activities.

  • The institution encourages and supports research activities by providing necessary infrastructure, resources, and time allocation for faculty and students engaged in research.

  • All research activities shall adhere to the highest standards of academic integrity, ethical conduct, and responsible research practices in alignment with national and international guidelines.

  • The institution promotes interdisciplinary research that cuts across traditional boundaries of engineering and management disciplines to address complex, real-world challenges.

  • Faculty members are encouraged to pursue externally funded research projects from funding agencies and other government and private funding bodies.

  • The institution provides seed funding and internal grants to support early-stage research projects and encourage researchers to pursue external funding opportunities.

  • Intellectual property generated through research activities at the institution shall be protected through appropriate mechanisms including patents, copyrights, and trade secrets, with equitable benefit-sharing arrangements.

  • The institution actively promotes industry-academia collaboration through joint research projects, consultancy services, and technology transfer initiatives.

  • Research students and scholars are provided with adequate mentorship, laboratory access, and academic support to ensure the successful completion of their research programs.

  • The R&D Department shall maintain transparent and accountable processes for the management of research funds, project monitoring, and reporting in compliance with funding agency requirements and institutional guidelines.

R&D Committee

Our Research Leadership

The Research & Development Committee at Providence College of Engineering is chaired by the Dean of Research & Development, Dr. V John Kurian, and comprises senior faculty representatives from all departments. The Committee is responsible for formulating research policies, reviewing and approving research proposals, overseeing funded projects, and ensuring that all research activities align with the institutional vision and national research priorities.

The Committee meets regularly to evaluate progress on ongoing projects, facilitate resource allocation, and recommend strategies to enhance the research output and visibility of the institution. It also serves as the primary interface between researchers and external funding bodies, industry partners, and regulatory agencies.
